Brushless Motor
A motor design that uses electronic commutation instead of mechanical brushes. Standard in cordless Dyson V-series and increasingly in plug-in vacuums.
Brushless DC motors run quieter, more efficient (longer battery life on cordless), and last longer than universal motors. The downside: more expensive and requires PCB control electronics that themselves can fail.
