Beater Bar
Synonym for brush roll. The mid-century industry term, still used by some manufacturers.
The beater bar agitates carpet fibers to lift embedded dirt that suction alone cannot reach. The vacuum's actual cleaning power on carpet comes from the brush roll plus suction together.
