What the symptom usually looks like

Suction is strong at the canister intake but weak at the handle or floorhead. The hose may whistle, collapse, or feel blocked.

Likely causes

Large debris lodged in the hose bend
Packed lint or pet hair in the telescopic wand
Toy, coin, or paper blockage
Debris jammed at the handle or floorhead neck

Safe checks before you bring it in

Remove the hose from the canister and test suction at the canister intake.
Disconnect the wand and floorhead so each piece can be checked separately.
Look through the wand toward a light source.
Gently shake the hose and listen for loose debris.
Avoid sharp tools that can puncture the hose.

Repair or replace?

Most clogs are simple if the hose is not punctured or crushed. If suction drops again after clearing, we should inspect seals, filters, and floorhead airflow.

If the vacuum is less than halfway through a normal Miele service life, repair is often the better financial choice. If the repair estimate approaches the cost of a new HomeCare model, we will say that plainly.
