Miele Cord Rewind Not Working

What the symptom usually looks like
The power cord will not retract fully, retracts too aggressively, will not lock, or causes the vacuum to cut in and out.
Likely causes
- Cord twisted inside the reel
- Cord reel spring or latch wear
- Damaged plug or cord jacket
- Internal reel contact issue
- Debris interfering with cord travel
Safe checks before you bring it in
- Unplug the vacuum before inspecting the cord.
- Pull the cord out slowly and check for cuts, heat marks, or kinks.
- Let the cord retract gently without snapping back.
- Do not open the canister to access the spring-loaded reel.
What to bring to the shop
- Bring the canister with the cord as-is.
- Tell us whether the problem is mechanical retraction or electrical cutout.

Repair or replace?
A weak rewind mechanism is usually different from a dangerous electrical cutout. If power changes when the cord moves, stop using it and bring it in.
If the vacuum is less than halfway through a normal Miele service life, repair is often the better financial choice. If the repair estimate approaches the cost of a new HomeCare model, we will say that plainly.
