Which Miele Bag Fits Your Vacuum?

Miele bag types are color-coded to a plastic holder inside the dust compartment. Match the color, match the bag. The four types in current circulation are GN (blue), FJM (red), U (beige), and KK (yellow). All four are in stock at our Alexandria shop.

Why genuine over aftermarket

Aftermarket Miele bags are usually 30% to 50% cheaper but vary widely in seal quality. A loose bag collar lets fine debris bypass the bag and reach the motor housing. Over 15 years that adds up to motor wear that the customer attributes to the vacuum being "old" when it is actually the bags. Genuine Type GN bags at about $25 for a 4-pack cost roughly $1.30 per week to operate. The motor protection is worth the spread.

How do I know which bag type my Miele takes?
Open the dust compartment and look at the rectangular plastic holder that grips the bag's collar. The holder is color-coded: blue = GN, red = FJM, beige = U, yellow = KK. The bag type is also printed on the inside of the lid.
Are genuine Miele bags worth it over aftermarket?
Yes. Genuine bags use a tighter collar seal that prevents debris from bypassing the bag and reaching the motor housing. Aftermarket bags vary widely in seal quality. For a vacuum you intend to keep 15 years, genuine is the cheaper choice.
How often should I change the bag?
When the bag indicator turns red, or roughly every 8 to 12 weeks for an average household. Pet households change more often. Do not wait past the red indicator; running with a full bag strains the motor.
How often should I change the HEPA filter?
Annually, or with every fourth bag change. Pet households and allergy households may benefit from a 6-month interval. The HEPA filter is what does the fine-particulate work; a saturated filter pushes dust back into the room.
